Advanced Whitewater Ducky Trip

No doubt the most challenging, thrilling trip we offer!! You’ve kayaked the class I-II section on the James with us, now you’re ready to shred the big whitewater downtown. You’ll receive plenty of off and on water instruction as your guides paddle alongside you throughout the trip. You and your guides will paddle single-person inflatable kayaks called “Duckies” on the lower falls of the James, from Reedy Creek to 14th St.
Get your blood pumping and hair standing on end by maneuvering through Class III rapids in the heart of what Outside Magazine named the Best River Town in the U.S. While paddling through Richmond’s growing skyline you’ll also get the chance to swim in calm pools and see Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Turtles and other wildlife. Which is awesome…but the main reason you’re jumping into this experience is the THRILL!
Our Upper River Kayak Trip (Class I-II) is a prerequisite for this Ducky trip. Building on your basic paddling skills, this trip provides a higher level of instruction to give you the confidence to paddle bigger, Class III rapids. Trip sizes are kept small (max 6 guests) to provide a more controlled learning environment. These boats are great for what you’ll be doing…they’re designed to make paddling through bigger whitewater easier for a wide range of abilities. But don’t be fooled, this trip is a significant step up in challenge and skill/athleticism used on the Upper Kayak Trip.
We’ll end the trip at the 14th St. white water takeout at the bottom of historic Shockoe Slip…then it’s back to the Riverside Outfitters shop– more like turn-of-the-century farm house– for a beverage and some front porch sittin’…a great way to end a great trip! Exact trip duration will depend on water level…typically about 2-3 hours.
Must be a least 16 years old, accompanied by an adult, and confident swimming in whitewater.
